”HAVING EYES, DO YOU NOT SEE?” Help for Believers to see the Coming Millennium.

1One of the great truths of the Bible is the “age of universal peace” on earth sandwiched between the Second Coming of Jesus and the descending and dwelling of God the Father on the new earth. When Jesus comes again to reign on this earth, He will “rule with a rod of iron” and abolish all “rule and power of the nations” that are not under His Lordship.

“He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.” (I Cor 15)

If it takes Jesus 1000 years to get all His enemies under His feet that means that there must be multiple millions (if not billions) of them. But I thought the whole world would come under God’s glory “as the waters cover the sea!” We like to think that we will put ALL NATIONS under our feet through the power of the Gospel but it simply won’t happen! The book of Revelation declares that this reign will take 1000 years and then Christ will “deliver the Kingdom up to God” and the Father Himself will, once again, “dwell among men” on earth. (Rev 21:3)

Dear Fellow Believers, it won’t be until the millennium, the 1000 year reign of Christ, that these things will begin to happen on earth; THAT is the season of “swords beaten into plowshares” and we will “learn war no more”. Until that day you can expect that the world will do both, keep creating arms and train for war!

The common mistake (or should I say difficulty) for the church is not knowing when the Millennium is being spoken about in the Old Testament. Many Psalms speak to that age yet we cannot see it. Most of Isaiah is written about that age yet we barely discern it. We are like the confused men on the road to Emmaus, “O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!”

Beloved, IN THAT DAY, and that day only, “the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord”, “the wolf will dwell with the lamb”, “the loftiness of man will be humbled and the Lord alone will be exalted”… I could go on and on. See Isaiah, Habakkuk, Zechariah, Malachi, etc.

It is common (and popular) for committed Christians to say that “I am contending for that which is written about”. If in heaven there is worship 24/7, then I am contending for that on earth. If it is written that “every knee shall bow and every tongue confess”, then I am contending for that in my city. If it is written that “no weapon formed against me shall stand” then I am contending for that in my life. The list, as you know, is endless. It is as long as there are believers on the earth!

My contention is that JESUS HIMSELF will bring all these spheres to their right place. When He comes we will “learn war no more”. Shall I busy myself now with getting the nations to lay down their arms? Shall I fight day and night for wars to cease? This is the problem. If I could use another imagery, should I believe and contend now, in my lifetime, for peace between the animals? Or for peace between humankind and the animals? After all that is promised from the Word.

And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat, And the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little boy will lead them. Also the cow and the bear will graze, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den. They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord As the waters cover the sea. (Isaiah 11: 6-9)

Shall I pray and dream and fight for a realization on earth, during my lifetime, when the “weaned child puts his hand on the viper’s den”?!? The question is HOW MUCH is my part, HOW MUCH the Gospel’s part and HOW MUCH is Jesus’ part?

  • Do you believe that if we preach the Gospel in its absolute power and purity we shall see “the wolf dwell with the lamb”?
  • We will see “the groaning of Creation” turned around in my backyard, my city and my county when we preach the gospel in its fullness?
  • We will see Satan bound and cast into the abyss if we could just “once and for all” really believe and preach the gospel the way Jesus did?

To all these questions I answer that Jesus HIMSELF will bring them about. He is “the stone [that] was cut out of the mountain without hands”. Most Christians don’t really know or understand the powerful truths from Daniel, so they continue to swallow the purple “Kool-aid” of men and thus invalidating the WORD of God! (Mark 7:13)

Here is the verse in a small setting of its context (Dan 2). Can you read it here, slowly! It describes the Second Coming…

“You continued looking until a stone was cut out without hands, and it struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay and crushed them. Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold were crushed all at the same time and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away so that not a trace of them was found. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.” (Daniel 2:34-35)

Jesus does not need humanity to help Him establish His kingdom throughout the whole earth when He comes the second time. Actually, of the that time period, He asked the pointed question: “When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18)

Believers, far from helping, might find themselves faltering! There is nothing I could recommend to you more, my readers, than the 150 Chapters on the End Times put together by IHOP-KC. In this document you can read for yourself the 150 chapters that describe the Second Coming, Millennium and Eternity in its entire Biblical context and see what is really there.

Often, I believe, we are like the blind man who received a partial healing from Jesus: “I see men walking about like trees!” Jesus, in His love and graciousness, laid His hands again on the man and he “began to see everything clearly”!!

Jesus open our eyes as well!

In Him,

Jeff Gilbertson
